Scope
The unit of analysis is the delivery system: who can approve a change, what must be demonstrated before release and how an exception is recorded. The discussion includes common standards and local variation, dependencies between teams, and the management of unresolved risk. Design systems supply reusable components; governance also addresses decisions that no component library can settle.
Illustrative example
Two teams share an onboarding journey. One changes the evidence required at a step while the other owns its explanation to customers. A governance review would identify the decision owner, record the dependency, test the combined journey and agree how to handle exceptions before either team releases its part. This is an illustrative delivery situation, not a reported client outcome.
Terms and contribution
Governance, decision rights and quality assurance are established organisational practices. Design Governance OS is Alessandro L. Piana Bianco’s proposed synthesis for design delivery. Its operating model and target measures should be read as a framework to adapt and evaluate, not as evidence of achieved performance.
