in/out is an independent publication launched in February 2025 by pianabianco.com. It examines organisations, institutions and complex systems through the lens of Strategic Design¹: the application of Design2 methods to the framing of challenges, the governance of change, and the analysis of systems.

The journal explores how power, information and coordination are structured and exercised across organisations, cities, technologies and geopolitical systems. Topics range from institutional governance, urban infrastructure and public services to mediation, signalling, strategic competition and the design of human and machine interfaces.

Beyond organisations and technology, the journal also examines the systems through which power, information and coordination operate, from urban infrastructure and institutional governance to signalling, mediation and strategic competition.

I am particularly interested in the conditions that shape — and reshape — systems; the governance, coordination and enforcement mechanisms through which they operate; and the cultural dimensions of the relationship between human beings and technology3.

I'm definitively not interested in technology for technology's sake, neither I have the tendency to fall in love with tools, platforms, or devices.

I have opinions; don't expect any apologies if they are different from yours.
Opinions expressed here are my (Alessandro L. Piana Bianco) own and do not represent my past, current, or (for what it matters) future employers.
